Livingston Parish council members looking to require permits for people living in travel trailers

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) – Some Livingston Parish council members are searching to crack down on persons living in vacation trailers.

People of the parish have parked their vacation trailers immediately after a lot of purely natural disasters in the past, together with the 2016 flood. But a person parish council member thinks it is time to pull the plug.

“We do not want people today dwelling in travel trailers or RVs, but if which is their only roof about their head, then we have to accommodate them,” mentioned Maurice ‘Scooter’ Keen, Livingston Parish Councilman for District 3.

Councilman Keen suggests it’s all about basic safety. And to that close, they want to demand these people to have permits for their trailers.

It’s why he’s looking to go an ordinance that reads, “Requirements and treatments for Leisure Cars (RV)” and Part 125-3.2.

“Prohibitions and constraints of use for Recreational Vehicles (RV)”.

“My factor with the hardwire electrical power is for basic safety. You know, I wouldn’t want any person to be in this as a previous resort, and then burn off up in their trailer, due to the fact it wasn’t wired in appropriately. And so now when they get the allow, they’ll mail a person out to make sure it is completed effectively, then they’ll have 24 months,” said Councilman Keen.

He’s also involved some of these travel trailers are not hooked up to septic techniques, probably dumping sewage on the floor.

So it’s not like the parish council is hunting to kick folks to the curb if this is their only area to dwell, they just want to make sure people are next all their security codes.

“For us to go out there and run them out of that and let them discover someplace to dwell, does not make feeling to me,” explained Eager.

Gayle Lutes has been living here for most of her existence.

“I’m excellent, but I never like them moseying in my company,” mentioned Gayle Lutes, a Denham Springs resident.

“You know, if you personal the residence, I do not see why you have to have the allow,” claimed Harry Reeves, a Denham Springs resident.

But some folks say this is an unwanted excess step folks should not have to acquire.

“They can come and check if they want, but if I’m up the benchmarks, I don’t consider I require to purchase a allow,” claimed Reeves.

“I really do not even consider we’re likely to demand for this allow, and it is going to be for 24 months. If they have to have it lengthier than 24 months, they’ll just arrive back and re-do their allow,” claimed Councilman Keen.

Tonight’s Livingston Parish Council meeting kicks off at 6.
